Mulled wine is part of the winter season. Generally we make mulled wine from red wine but this year a white wine variety seemed more suitable. It is sweet with a hint of sourness, fragrant and fruity. A perfect accompaniment to a lavish Christmas meal. Happy sipping.

Fruit & spice mulled white wine
You will need (serves 4):
500 ml white wine (VEGAN)
500 ml filtered water
1 tbsp coconut palm sugar (coconut blossom nectar)
1 tbsp xylitol (birch sugar)
1 tsp home-made vanilla sugar (see recipe later)
1 medium apple, sliced horizontally
half an orange, sliced horizontally
1 slice of a lemon
1 star anise
1 cinnamon stick
1 scant tsp ground cinnamon
5 whole cloves
a pinch of freshly grated nutmeg
an inch fresh ginger, finely sliced

In a saucepan combine wine and water. Add the apple, orange and lemon slices, the sweeteners and the spices too. Over medium heat gently bring to boil and on low heat simmer uncovered for a minute or two. Ready. Pour into thick glasses (strain through a sieve), add a slice of apple. Serve hot. Enjoy!
